Angina
Angina is chest pain that comes and goes. There are many types of angina. Stable angina is the most common type and is caused by coronary artery disease. Rest and medication can relieve angina and improve your quality of life. Severe or sudden angina indicates heart failure and requires immediate medical attention.
What are the different types of angina?
- Stable angina
- Unstable angina
- Microvascular angina
- Prinzmetal’s angina (variation)
Stable angina: Stable angina is the most common type of angina. It usually involves activity (exercise) and resolves with rest or brain medication. For example, pain when walking uphill or in cold weather may be angina.
Stable angina: pain is predictable and often associated with prior chest pain. Chest pain is usually short-lived, perhaps five minutes or less.
Unstable angina: (medical emergency): Unstable angina is unknown and diagnosed at rest. Or angina pain is severe and resolves without much physical effort. It is usually more severe and lasts longer than normal angina, perhaps 20 minutes or more. The pain does not go away with rest or regular pain relievers. If blood flow is impaired, the heart will suffer from oxygen starvation and heart failure. Unstable angina is dangerous and should be treated immediately.
Variant angina (Prinzmetal angina): Variant angina, also known as Prinzmetal’s angina, is not caused by coronary artery disease. It is caused by heart failure that temporarily reduces blood flow. Severe chest pain is known as angina pectoris. It usually occurs during menstruation, usually at rest and at night. Pain can be reduced with Angina treatment.
